New boats: Williams Sportjet 460 tender

In a new move for the performance RIB maker Williams Performance Tenders, the new Sportjet range will feature BRP’s Rotax 4-TEC 150 jet propulsion system promising speeds in excess of 40kts.

The Brit builder said the Rotax motor is one of the cleanest and quietest engines in the industry, “providing high-performance, superior handling and low-maintenance, as well as meeting stringent ultra-low-emission standards”.

With jet tenders Williams’ prime product, the Sportjets are targeting the waterski and wakeboarding set, as well as providing another tender option for both standalone boaters and yacht owners to consider.

Water jet propulsion has no exposed propeller, a safety consideration factor promoted by company particularly for operation around swimmers or waterskiiers.

The first of the Sportjets, the 460 (above), made its world debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September, followed a week later by its UK launch at the PSP Southampton Boat Show. At 4.6m its dry weight is said to be around 550kg.

The second model in the range, the Sportjet 510 makes its world debut at the London Boat Show in January. The 510 is 5.1m and weighs 595kg.

The 460 will be available in Australia before Christmas, and the 510 close behind it in early 2015.

Some of the Sportjet features include a large sports platform area, rear-facing lounge seats, reversible backrest for sunbathing, folding helm with windshield, Sea Dek footwell and platform, a large storage locker forward, and an additional storage locker in the helm.

A windscreen, ski pole, navigation lights and swimladder are fitted as standard, optional extras including LED lights, bimini, dodger, Garmin chartplotter and a Fusion music system.

Neil Webster, Australian distributor for the Williams brand, says the new Sportjet models “tick all the boxes”.

“The alliance with BRP means more convenience and significant savings on maintenance,” said Webster. “Your Williams Sportjet can be serviced anywhere in the world with parts that are accessible and available
at lower cost.”

The Williams Sportjet range will be available in four colour schemes: Neptune Grey, Basalt Black, Electro Blue or Lava Red (above). The package will be offered with a full three-year warranty.
