Mustang Barry
Luxury boat-building identity Bill Barry-Cotter (pictured) has purchased ailing premium boat brand Mustang Marine, after teaming up with fellow Gold Coast entrepreneur Steve Searle. Searle owns Swagman Motorhomes and ACME Fibreglass.
Mustang was placed into administration in March, after its financial backer, Standard Bank Asia, withdrew its support. Standard Bank Asia had purchased Mustang from receivers just two years ago.
The deal was announced on May 7. Barry-Cotter, who also owns luxury boat brand Maritimo, later issued a statement shedding a little more light on the future of the Mustang brand. “Mustang distribution will continue through some dealers. Elsewhere, boats will be sold through Maritimo dealers,” the statement said. The statement also revealed that the deal sees Maritimo own Mustang Marine’s intellectual property and moulds. The purchase price was not disclosed.
