NEW BOATS - Luhrs aims big with new 30 Open

The new Luhrs 30 Open comes with impeccable credentials as a serious sportsfishing boat engineered to offer the very best performance and accommodations for its size, says Sydney’s BlueWater Power Yachts.

Developed from the popular 28 Open, the 30 Open has Luhrs’ signature fine-entry bow profile expanding out to a Carolina flare. The deep-vee running surface provides a dry, comfortable ride offshore, while the wide beam gives good stability and plenty of onboard space for fishing and entertaining.

“Going by our experience in Australia with 28 Opens, the 30 Open will be able to travel with 40ft boats in most sea conditions. Interestingly, with her 3.5m beam, the Luhrs 30 Open is capable of being road towed in Australia (with permits),” said Luhrs’ Australian distributor BlueWater Power Yachts.

Standard power is from twin 260hp Yanmar 6BY shaftdrive 3lt diesels. The engines are widely spaced for the best balance of overall performance, economy, and manoeuvrability.

The interior has 1.76m (5ft10in) headroom and berths for up to four people. The galley features a stainless steel sink, fridge, stove, microwave, and Corian bench-top, while a TV/stereo/DVD player is standard. The head has an electric loo with holding tank and a standup shower, and we’re told there’s a load of storage space for all boating necessities and niceties.

The bridgedeck helm has a large windscreen for all-round visibility for the skipper and the alloy tower option for sportsfishing boasts dual controls and clear 360-degree views. The tower’s height rivals many 40ft-plus flybridge cruisers said BlueWater.

Standard in the 4.54m² cockpit are a transom door, fresh and raw water washdown taps, plumbed livebait tank, icebox and an inbuilt transom box. And the dealer reckons you don’t have to be a team of anglers to enjoy the backend of the boats, just add table and chairs for alfresco dining.
