NEW BOATS - Greenline 40 Hybrid
Following the popularity of its first hybrid-powered boat, European boatbuilder Seaway has announced a second bigger version, the Greenline 40 Hybrid.
The Greenlines utilise a variety of diesel-electric engine setups for propulsion in either mode, and battery charging from the motor, shorepower and photovoltaic roof panels.
Like the 30 Hybrid, the new Greenline 40 is designed by J&J Design with engine power from Volkswagen, and follows the same philosophy, with: great ease of handling; unmatched safety and seaworthiness; and, the comfort of home for overnighting.
The builder said the low-drag, energy-saving Superdisplacement hull coupled to hybrid (diesel/electric) and solar technology creates cost-saving running benefits. (See Trade-a-Boat issue 408 or go online for editor David Lockwood’s test and performance analysis of the Greenline 33).
Of note are the mix of propulsion systems available for the new Greenline 40. The Hybrid system is available with single engines only, a 75hp VW SDI and 165hp VW TDI. These motors are coupled to a ZF 46.9hp electric motor (with integrated 13.4hp generator) that produces a top speed of 7kts. Under diesel power, the 40 Hybrid runs at up to 9kts and 14kts respectively.
For those that don’t want electric propulsion, Seaway offers the Greenline 40 with a single engine 225hp VW TDI (max speed 16kts) engine, or twin 75hp, 165hp (max speed 18kts) and 225hp engines.
