NEWS - New marina opens at Redcliffe, Moreton Bay
The first stage of Redcliffe Marina is open with 74 berths now available in Scarborough Boat Harbour, at the popular seaside destination of Redcliffe, 28km north of Brisbane on Moreton Bay.
The marina is being developed by Compass Marinas, with on-water construction by Bellingham Marine Australia (BMA). It is the third marina at Scarborough Boat Harbour, joining Moreton Bay Boat Club Marina and Scarborough Marina.
Stage one of the three-stage Redcliffe Marina includes 74 berths ranging from 10m to 15m, and will total 120 berths upon completion. This will take Scarborough Boat Harbour’s total berthing capacity to around 443.
Redcliffe Marina’s onshore amenities include an architect-designed building development comprising a marina administration facility, boat shed, shower and laundry facilities, and a covered community area. The marina also features a large grassed area and landscaping, while pathways have been interwoven into the development to allow pedestrians and cyclists to access the waterfront surrounding the marina.
Compass Marinas Group said following the completion of an extensive environmental planning approval and consultation process, it decided to take its commitment to the environment one step further by eliminating any use of timber products in the marina.
To meet the developer’s request for a marina free of treated lumber, BMA said it provided a recycled-plastic composite waler in lieu of traditional timber for the marina fingers edges. This, it said, is the first Unifloat marina designed and constructed by BMA in Queensland utilising a full-composite waler system.
“To add further quality to the marina, single-piece rounded finger ends were utilised,” said BMA . “This feature provides an improved visual appearance as well as adds protection and a more forgiving surface to berthing vessels.”
Other features of the marina include specially designed knee-brackets to create more water space, vandal-proof water taps fitted to the entire marina, and a bilge and separate sewer pump-out facility.
