NEWS - Mercury marks 15 years of Quality Management

Mercury Marine has been recognised by the applied information services company SAI Global for achieving 15 years of continuous Quality Management certification set down by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

Mercury said it was first accredited under ISO 9001 in 1995 by Standards Australia (now SAI Global) and has been displaying the highly-regarded "5-Ticks" logo ever since. ISO 9001 relates to a company whose quality management systems have been independently audited and certified in accordance with the standard.

“Fifteen years of continuous certification is quite an achievement and we’re justifiably proud,” said Ron Bell, Mercury’s quality assurance manager.

“It takes constant work across the organisation, from senior managers to staff in every department, to maintain ISO 9001 standards,” he said.

Mercury said it achieved its initial accreditation to help open sales opportunities with the Australian Defence Force, but added that the system benefits all customers.

“Over the years, Quality Management has evolved to become very focussed on customer requirements, which is ideal because, for Mercury, it is all about delivering excellent products and services to our customers and dealers,” said Bell.

To further improve the organisation’s customer outcomes, Mercury said its ISO 9001 Quality Management system has been linked to the Lean Six Sigma business management strategy.

“The two systems interlink very well, giving us an even greater ability to deliver excellence,” Bell said.
