NEW BUILDS - PORSCHE SPACECRAFT NO UFO
Australian commercial-catamaran design and construction company Incat Crowther has announced the completion of the first stage of the cutting-edge 40m Motor Yacht, RFF 135, designed in association with and for the Austrian-based Porsche Design Studio and project partner Royal Falcon Fleet.
Stage one construction of RFF 135 took place at 189 Shipyard in Vietnam, and included all aluminium structure work. Incat Crowther said the milestone is a great achievement for it and the Singapore superyacht builder Royal Falcon Fleet team.
A design parameter of the vessel was to create a “spacecraft on water” and opted for the catamaran hull-form and its offers of new concept potentials to superyacht design.
“The RFF135 breaks the mould in many ways and is unlike any other craft built before,” Incat Crowther said. “Many challenges were faced in using aluminium to create such complex and flowing shapes without compromising any of Porsche Design Studio’s vision or the vessel’s structural integrity.”
RFF135 has been shipped to Sweden for a machinery fitout after which it will undergo finishing work to the exterior and interior. Launch date is expected in the fourth quarter of 2010.
“There has been much speculation about high-profile purchasers of the first RFF135 from many media outlets,” Incat Crowther said. “Whilst nothing has been confirmed yet, an announcement is expected in the near future.”
