PAE announces Nordhavn 78-foot yacht

PAE ANNOUNCES NORDHAVN 78-FOOT YACHT

Following up their two latest designs, the N56 Motorsailer and the N75 Expedition Yachtfisher, Pacific Asian Enterprises (PAE) says it has once again stretched the boundaries of their trawler line with the introduction of the Nordhavn 78, a long-range, contemporary-styled yacht.

The N78 will serve the needs of the class of boater who wants the proven ocean-crossing capabilities of a Nordhavn combined with the sleek lines of typical European-style yachts, the builder said.

“This design will appeal to a whole faction of clientele who tend not to prefer the traditional expedition-type look of a Nordhavn,” says PAE’s vice president, Jim Leishman. “The N78 will evoke a contemporary European feel without losing the dynamic of being a Nordhavn.”

PAE said the key to the N78 design is the emphasis chief designer, Jeff Leishman, has placed on outdoor living, starting with the flybridge, which features a Jacuzzi, wetbar, barbecue and a large open deck area for entertaining. Meanwhile, the N78 foredeck has been designated the ideal outdoor “chilling space” and the cockpit has been opened up, further enhancing entertaining possibilities.

Another draw of the new Nordhavn, said the builder, is that it better segregates the crew from the owners and their guests. “Like the entire Nordhavn product range (with the exception of the N120), the N78 was intended to be operated without a captain. However, Leishman has designed engineroom access in the transom so that employed crew can enter the area without impacting company onboard,” Nordhavn said.

The twin engine N78 has ocean-crossing capabilities with a claimed range of 3000nm-plus and superior fuel efficiency.

PAE said the interior will feature an updated, modern design that includes sumptuous owners’ accommodations and two guest rooms all with en suite heads, crew quarters, and off-watch quarters.

“The beauty of this (N78) design is that it’s a Nordhavn, so you’ve got comfort and confidence while underway, but the benefits will be realised when you’re not passagemaking,” notes Nordhavn Europe’s
Philip Roach. “The added elements will really allow you to enjoy your time on board once you’ve arrived.”

The Nordhavn 78 project is currently underway with the first hull scheduled for completion in early 2011.
