NEWS ALERT - Clipper fleet to arrive in Western Australia today
The first of the boats competing in the Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race will arrive in Geraldton,
WA, today at the end of the Southern Ocean leg from
Cape Town,
South Africa. The first boat is expected to cross the finish line at 1230 local time.
The 10 68-foot ocean-racing yachts are crewed by people from all walks of life and represent cities and countries from around the world. Australian’s entry, Spirit of Australia,
is currently lying in second place on the overall leaderboard and is battling
Team Finland
at the front of the fleet in an attempt to achieve a homeport victory. Just 5nm separated the two teams at the latest position report.
The fleet will be berthed at the Batavia Coast Marina, Geraldton for the duration of the stopover. The race will restart on Sunday, January 3 when the boats will race up the WA coast and on to
Singapore.
