Drummoyne boating facilities to be upgraded

The NSW State Government will spend more than $1 million on improved boating facilities in Drummoyne, labour MP Angela D’Amore announced recently.

D’Amore said two grants totalling $1,047,493 have been offered to the City of Canada Bay Council under the Better Boating Program to upgrade existing boat ramp facilities.

“A grant of $768,493 is earmarked to extend the existing car park and to finalise the cost of the new pontoon facility and ramp extension at Taplin Park,” she said.

“A second grant of $279,000 has been provided to upgrade the Bayview Park boat ramp at Concord. This is additional funding for the rehabilitation and extension of the existing boat ramp and installation of new pontoon facility.”

D’Amore said work on the Taplin Park ramp and new pontoon has only recently been completed thanks to an initial grant of $227,000.

Ports and Waterways Minister Paul McLeay said NSW Maritime’s 2009-10 Better Boating Program will support 56 projects in regional NSW, and nine boat ramp developments in Sydney Harbour.

“NSW Maritime has provided more than $25 million in grants supporting more than 470 projects since 1998 — from dinghy storage racks and boat ramps to jetties and vessel sewage pump-out facilities,” McLeay said.

“These grants are about planning for the future and making sure the community has safe access to facilities which help them get out and about on our waterways,” he added.

Funding for NSW Maritime Better Boating grants has recently grown to $5 million per annum over the next five years.
