NEWS - One Dead in Boating Mishap on NSW Far South Coast
HAYCOCK POINT, PAMBULA, Wednesday: One man is dead following an incident involving a 4m aluminium boat just outside the surf break off Haycock Point near Pambula on Wednesday morning.
It is understood that two men were fishing when
one fell overboard and the other man went to his aid, with the vessel capsizing and throwing the second man into the water.
Conditions at the time were described as calm with minimal swell and little wind.
A NSW Maritime Boating Safety Officer from Eden and Water Police attended the scene. One man died and the other man was taken to
Pambula Hospital and was subsequently released.
Royal Volunteer Coastal Patrol volunteers from Merimbula recovered the vessel and towed it to Merimbula.
The men were not wearing lifejackets at the time of the incident, however, appropriate equipment and lifejackets were on the vessel.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
