EVENTS - The Sydney Beneteau Cup 2009

Vicsail Sydney will incorporate Lagoon sailing cats for the first time in the popular Beneteau Cup rally to be sailed on Sydney Habour on November 20.

Lucy Hogan from Vicsail told Trade-a-Boat that with so many of Beneteau’s Lagoon cats in Sydney, with particularly strong sales this year, it was decided to incorporate the double-hulled yachts in the rally, the first time in 18 years, with their own racing division.

Vicsail has promised a day of great sailing, good food and entertainment, in the company of other Beneteau and Lagoon owners.

Fantastic prizes include a Mariner Boating Holiday — two places free of charge on a participating yacht in the Balearic Yacht Rally to be conducted by Mariner in June 2011, where the winners will visit Ibiza, Mallorca and Menorca and enjoy an exciting mix of Spanish culture, cuisine and entertainment, not to mention the exciting sailing between the coves and inlets of these enchanting islands. According to Vicsail, Mariner will offer a fleet of Lagoon catamarans and Beneteau monohulls for charter in this inaugural Mediterranean event. (Go to www.marinerboating.com).

The Beneteau Cup starts at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA), Rushcutters Bay, on Friday morning, November 20, with a French breakfast and then some competitive racing around Sydney Harbour before stopping for lunch.

The second part of the day will consist of a race back to the CYCA to enjoy dinner, followed by prize giving and live entertainment. Organisers said overnight berthing is also available and for bookings contact CYCA.

Beneteau Cup racing consists of:

* IRC Class
- For the performance racer;
*Spinnaker Class
- For the more competitive yachts;
*The Jib-and-Main Class
-For the more relaxed with slightly shorter courses; and,

*Lagoon Multihull 

-This year adds a whole new division for Lagoon owners and, according to Vicsail, is not to be missed.

Vicsail said new information on the Beneteau Cup will be released on a weekly basis and it advises owners to keep an eye out for updates
