BREAKING NEWS - Iain Murray's Azzura Marine insolvent
Azzura Marine, Nowra, NSW, called a meeting at 3.45pm yesterday (September 15). Iain Murray was there with a bunch of suits and some locksmiths. Company insolvent, Delloitte Touche Tohmatsu appointed liquidators (David John Frank Lombe and Simon John Cathro). Trade-a-Boat understands that all staff were fired, told to get their tools and go, with entitlements and two day’s wages owing.
"This was not a complete surprise to most of us, as at the start of the year we had orders for two Marten 67s and three M49s, and management was hiring like mad to get the work done. Since then, no new orders for Martens and only one Sydney 37. The second of the Marten 67s is still in the shed half finished," a former staffer confided to Trade-a-Boat.
It's not known how Murray's broader interests — Hamilton Island Yacht Club, Azzura Marine Newcastle and Gold Coast, and so on — are faring.
Azzura Marine and Iain Murray didn't return our calls. Predictably, the rumour mill is running rife.
"All I know for sure is that about 60 of the best marine tradies in the country have a sore head and no job this morning," the former staffer lamented to Trade-a-Boat.
