Thompson Marine Services distributes Seatorque in Australia and NZ

Auckland-based Thompson Marine Services has been appointed exclusive distributor for the revolutionary Seatorque Enclosed Drive Shaft System or Boss (Bolt on Shaft System) in Australia and New Zealand.

Thompson Marine Services director, Travis Thompson, described the American-built The Boss as a totally enclosed, oil-filled, self-contained shaft and thrust bearing assembly, supplied as a complete unit, from transmission output coupling to propeller end.

“The non-rotating, full-length shaft casing and thrust bearing assembly minimises mechanical losses and underwater drag, which has proven especially beneficial on high-speed sport fishing boats”, says Thompson.

“Amongst the real benefits of the Seatorque system is that it eliminates alignment issues during and post construction, vibration is eliminated at the source and it does away with the need of cutlass bearings, dripless seals, stuffing boxes and intermediate struts,” he said.

He said that the system is suitable for vessels from 11m to 48m, with shafts varying in length from 1.2m to over 9m. They are suitable for both new builds or refits.
