Not all boats are built the same and some aren't even built to a standard.
This will be the hot topic of discussion at the Boating Summit Down Under staged by the National Marine Safety Committee on May 21-22 to coincide with the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.
The summit will give marine industry delegates the chance to hear international experts' views on small-boat standards.
It's widely acknowledged that aligning the standards used in the US and Europe would make life a lot easier for boat builders including those in Australia that have to make production changes to meet either market.
