The Best International Boat Show Goes On | SCIBS 2021

We curated the top Exhibitors in case you missed out on this great show

It feels like only yesterday that we were pacing the boardwalks of SCIBS 2019, but a date check reminds us that we lost last year’s show to the pandemic, that up until only weeks ago was still shadowing 2021. But now the clouds are breaking, the sun is shining again and with confirmation from the Federal Government of quarantine-free access for vessels and passengers travelling from New Zealand and a plethora of big-name vessels on the way, 2021 is shaping up well.

2019 was monumental with a claimed $336m injected into the economy from record sales for all major brands, but will 2021’s show be affected by the gap year?

We suspect not. The talk of the town is that orders are already at record levels and interest at an all-time high, so with SCIBS the first real chance to sample multiple vessels from the leading brands in one exceptional location, it would be a surprise to us if buyers didn’t put down record deposits.

The ‘year off ’ gave the Sanctuary Cove marina managers a chance to fulfil some dreams like the addition of a genuine Superyacht arm that has recently been accredited Platinum Gold Anchor by the Marina Industries Association. With the new arm comes a new VIP area for the show by the InterContinental Resort’s lagoon and a new Captains lounge for crew of vessels 28m or more. What we are most excited about though is the first look at the covered berths near the popular Artichoke restaurant. Construction is well underway with an aim to be completed only days before the gates open. Long term, these covered arms will shelter the brands that call Sanctuary Cove home, adding yet more excellent service to the boats we love.

Speaking of boats, we look forward to seeing you at SCIBS 21. We’ve hit the phones and email to chase down the most exciting and interesting boats to be displayed this year, so enjoy.

 MARVELOUS MARITIMO

This year at Maritimo’s on water display, one of the largest and most diverse of the event, the leading Australian luxury motoryacht manufacturer will launch two spectacular new motoryachts. This issue’s cover boat, the M55 Flybridge Motor Yacht, and the S55 Sedan Motor Yacht will be the stars of the Maritimo display and will be showcased alongside other models from Maritimo’s M-Series Flybridge Motor Yacht and X-Series Sport Yacht line-ups.

Editor Tim was lucky enough to sample the M55 prior to launch and agrees with Maritimo’s belief that they have crafted the ultimate flybridge motoryacht that capably delivers a practical boating lifestyle, with attention to every detail of its form.

Also set for its global launch is the latest addition of the internationally acclaimed S-Series sedan motoryacht range, the stunning S55 Sedan Motor Yacht.

The new S55 joins a series renowned for long range adventuring, offshore cruising, build integrity, ocean tested stability and performance — features which form the foundation of Maritimo’s motoryacht building ethos.

The S55 offshore adventuring sedan motoryacht marks the first of an evolutionary design shift to the exterior form and styling within the S-Series. The key practical design features of S-Series models past remain, with an array of exterior form advancements and additional features included.

Maritimo have expanded cockpit hardtop coverage, amplifying the amount of area above on the often-inaccessible sedan hardtop. The hardtop has been designed and engineered to be capable of carrying the weight of 350kg davit and tender, freeing up the adventure deck and aft garage spaces for more entertaining or storage capability.

Maritimo’s display will also include exciting showcases of its diverse skills and craftsmanship with a 43ft racing catamaran from the current UIM World Champion Maritimo Racing team, as well as the 115 year old 32ft Ketch, Katwinchar, fully restored by Bill Barry-Cotter and Maritimo’s Special Projects Division.

All of the motoryachts on display share Riviera’s acclaimed quality engineering, design excellence and handcrafted luxurious finishes.

The show will provide boating enthusiasts with a unique opportunity to be among the first to step aboard the exceptional new Riviera 645 SUV, the outstanding flagship of the sporty and adventurous SUV motoryachts.

The 645 SUV will be accompanied at this year’s boat show by her sisterships the 445, 505 and 575 SUVs, as well as the luxurious and long-range 72, 64 and 50 Sports Motor Yachts, the stylish and sophisticated 6000, 5400, and 4800 Sport Yacht Platinum Editions, and the blue-water heritage 57 Enclosed Flybridge.

Riviera’s display will also play host to the ninth Riviera Festival of Boating where Riviera owners can participate in a program of boating educational and training events, including the ladies’ skippers, mastering knots lines and hitches, offshore seamanship, understanding radar, navigating at night and onboard power systems management, all designed to encourage Riviera owners and their families to enjoy boating to the fullest.

A number of exclusive social events also form part of the festival activities, including the Riviera owners’ ladies’ luncheon and at night the Riviera Owners Party aboard The YOT Club, a floating superyacht entertainment hub that will be the social heart of this year’s Riviera display.

 FLEMING

As timeless as Fleming Yachts are, Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show 2021 will see the debut of an all-new Fleming 65.

One of the most popular models in the company’s fleet, the 65 has been a darling of Trade-a-Boat and buyers alike. Although the vessel on display is a sold boat, the team are inviting prospective buyers aboard to sample what will no doubt be one of the stars of the show.

 FIT FOR A PRINCESS

Forward-thinking, singular craftmanship and a painstaking level of attention to detail are the subtle but unmistakable calling cards of Princess Yachts Australia.

Helmed by Greg Hains, each Princess yacht is still meticulously constructed at its shipyards in Plymouth, England, where the company had its origins. In keeping true to their roots, the Princess has an unmistakable look that remains consistent throughout their range.

Collaborating with Pininfarina, an Italian design house, Princess Yachts are taking the sports yacht experience to the next level by combing a sleek, dynamic exterior with more than generous space and performance qualities they are known for. The brand new designs are set be winners for Princess, with the V55 already slated to be a leader in its class.

Also set to be part of Princess’ display is the Princess V39/40 and Princess F49/50.

The raised pilothouse is accompanied by a large built-in settee, while the open flybridge offers U-shaped seating and a dinette, a wet bar and grill, and davit for launching the tender.

 POSITIVE APPROACH

Leigh-Smith Yachts are once again proud to be one of the inaugural exhibitors of SCIBS to showcase a premium display of luxury motoryachts from 40ft to 112ft.

The superyachts on display this year are a reminder of the growth of the industry and a great example as to why the big end of town are choosing to stay home and invest their valuable time and dollars into the Superyacht arena.

Director Ryan Leigh-Smith remarked to TAB, “After last years’ break, SCIBS is back and open for business. Expect new innovations and heavy investment from the industry that have banded together to make sure this show is the best one yet.”

Their advanced hull design provides superb handling, while an all new Italian-influenced interior design is visible across the range.

Revealed in January 2021 as part of a continuous effort to make life on the water easier, this innovation is an exciting next step in the evolution of the unique Volvo Penta IPS experience, making docking a boat by yourself easier and safer than ever before.

SCIBS attendees can also expect an inviting stand in which Volvo Penta will showcase powering solutions suitable for sailing and powerboats, including the unique Volvo Penta IPS system. Among the displaying products, there will be both diesel and gasoline engines, as well as the popular glass cockpit simulator, which vividly recreates the experience of helming a large powerboat with the IPS drive installed.

 20 YEARS AT SANCTUARY COVE

Voyager Catamarans first released their popular V930 Sports Cruiser at the 2001 Sanctuary Cove Boat Show, and this year are celebrating 20 years with the release of a new addition to their SERIES 2 Generation.

The all new ‘SportsFish’ layout has the cabin further forward giving a 50 per cent increase in aft deck space up to a huge 7.6 sq mt. In the ‘well appointed’ Voyager tradition, this model still features a queen size berth and walk in bathroom, plus 4 person dinette and galley in the saloon. Everything flows seamlessly into the expansive cockpit with either ‘Open’ or ‘Enclosed’ configurations available.

The cockpit has big hatches to massive underfloor storage, and also features a very large ‘swim’ or ‘aft fishing’ platform (big enough for two or three people) surrounded by stainless steel railings and a fold down access ladder. With a fuel capacity of 900L and 280L of water, this Voyager sports fisher can take you to those far out fishing grounds in safety and comfort.

Exceptionally comfortable on board while uniquely comfortable on the water, the GB60 is truly a game changer.

 FAST CLASS

Saxdor’s vision to redefine the global adventure boat market may seem like a somewhat lofty ambition. Until, that is, you realise that the man behind such a mission is Sakari Mattila, the legendary Finnish designer and the original founder behind global boat brands such as Axopar, XO Boats, Paragon and Aquador.

Their first model, the Saxdor 200 Sport, was launched in March 2020 and has already received accolades around the world, winning awards at Best of Boats 2020 and the prestigious European Powerboat of the Year 2021.

The second of Mattila’s designs, the Saxdor 320 GTO, makes its world boat show debut at SCIBS 2021, with one of Europe’s most prestigious motorboat publications already heralding the Saxdor 320 as one of the most exciting boats of 2021.

There will be a variety of other Aquila’s on display at the boat show, so there will be plenty for interested parties to check out.

 BUILT FOR AUSTRALIA

Australia’s influence on Whitehaven Motor Yachts stretches back to its inception. When designing Whitehaven’s first offering, avid yacht owner Bruce Scott and boat builder Ryan Hanson turned to the picture-perfect Whitsundays for inspiration.

Since the release of the original Flybridge 7000, Whitehaven’s range has expanded to include the Harbour Classic 40, Flybridge, Sunbridge, Coupe 6000, and the latest offering, the 7500 Sports Yacht, the first of their 80ft yachts.

Hand-built by craftspeople in Taiwan and offering a high level of customisation options, Whitehaven Yachts are designed with stability for Australian conditions in mind.

Whitehaven is returning to the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show with the Whitehaven Flybridge 7000 and 6000, currently the only flybridge vessels on the market to feature fully enclosed garages.
